Thesis template style list

The order of the styles below corresponds to the style list in the template (download). Style names appear in the Styles pane. Alias names appear in the Quick Style Gallery in the Home tab of the Ribbon.

Style Name Alias Description
Heading 1 ThesisTitle Thesis title. Appears on the title page
Heading 2 ChapterTitle Chapter titles. Each style has a page break before, so expect it to jump to the next page when you apply the style.
Heading 3 SectionTitle/A-head Chapter subheads
Heading 4 B-Head Second-level subhead
Heading 5 C-Head Third-level subhead; this style appears in-line with its related paragraph (using C-Head Body Text). It has to be applied on a separate line first, then you delete the paragraph return that separates the C-Head style and the paragraph.
C-Body Text C-Body Body text that is associated with the C-head
No-TOC-Heading Same Headings not meant to be part of the table of contents, styled similarly to chapter headings (Heading 2)
Body Text Body Basic body text
Centered Text Centered Same formatting as body, except centered rather than flush left
Author Same Used for the author attribution on the title page
Month-Year Same Month, year, on the bottom of the title page, below "Harvard" (also included)
Block Quote BlockQuo For any quotes that are set apart from the main body text
Numbered List Numbers Ordered lists: 1, 2, 3, etc.
Bulleted List Bullets Unordered lists
Table Title TableTitle Analogous to figure titles, but meant to appear above tables
Table Description TableDesc Descriptive text below the table title
Table Cell TableCell for any text or data in a table cell
Figure Figure Apply this style to the paragraph in which your figure rests so it doesn't get pulled into your List of Figures.
Figure Title FigTitle Headings that appear directly above figures (charts, illustrations, etc.)
Figure Description FigDesc Descriptive text below the figure title
Bibliography Entry BibEntry Correct indentation style for your bibliography entries
Copyright Same For use on the second page, for copyright information
Footer Same Formatting for page numbers, appearing at the bottom of the page below the main content
Header Same Formatting for the header, at the top of the page above the main content
TOC 1 Same Style for first-level table of contents entries
TOC 2 Same Style for second-level table of contents entries
TOC 3 Same Style for third-level table of contents entries
TOC 4 Same Style for fourth-level table of contents entries
